Who Pays Writers?
Perhaps something useful
A good website to start is this one, a website with links to magazines and publishers that hire writers and pay by the word. I have not tried any of them yet, but I am interested in the Christian Science Monitor.
The link above is the page that reports results and experiences with feedback such as what editors are good to work with and which publications to avoid.
The following feedback is listed for the Christian Science Monitor:
500-word profile or interview
Medium reporting; Ongoing/pre-existing relationship with editor or publication
“They contacted me for this story after I’d done another for them (which I pitched). They are stellar to work with — high-quality professional editors who work well with freelancers. I also shot photos and was paid separately for them. Both paid without invoicing and promptly!”
Anyone can click on the publication titles on the left and leave a report about their own experiences with the publication.
I will check back frequently to see what other information might be available.
