Time To Leave Facebook?
Unacceptable changes
I haven’t like Facebook, now Meta, for a long time now. Apart from tracking us even when we are not on Facebook, there are endless ads to contend with. I found ways to curtail both tracking and ads, but we can never be sure.
I tolerated this social medium I detest since it is a good way to keep up with far flung relatives and friends.
Now we see more systemic issues in the media world. The Washington Post no longer publishes cartoons or news that criticizes Trump and/or his favorite billionaires. Twitter (X) has become a haven for anti-free speech activists with extreme views. Now Facebook will tolerate hate speech, stop most fact checking, and it cares nothing about its users denigrating women.
According to an article by Clare Duffy on CNN, Facebook is updating its “hateful conduct policy” and Facebook “users are now allowed to, for example, refer to “women as household objects or property.”
Facebook will become a haven for misogynists, not unlike Twitter (X) under Musk, a far cry from the beginnings when the Internet and social media were supposed to connect us all in harmony and mutual appreciation.
