The Spirit of Christmas

Enjoy the good things in life that are free!

I admit I am always generous at Christmas time, but I am also generous year round. When I was younger, I volunteered my time. Later, when I had less time and more money, I donated more.

However, it is good to remember that many things are still free (or almost free), even at Christmas.

Time with family and friends

During the holidays, we get to see even far flung family and friends. Yes, it may not be pleasant to spend time with crazy Uncle Joe, but most relatives are on their best behavior during those holiday visits.

These gatherings are cheap. Food is cooked at home or the meal is potluck style with everyone bringing something. I still remember the Christmases of my youth, with ten or more women cooking and baking up a storm, taking over the whole kitchen and lunging at us kids trying to sneak some of the dough.

Love

Cuddling with your significant other, hugging your children, petting your dog, all are free and bring so much joy. When my daughter was little, we would snuggle under a warm blanket, watch old Christmas movies, and munch on home made cookies.
