Sudden drop in followers and other strange things

I am used to Medium glitches and emails from Substack about the algorithm causing a sudden drop in earnings. I am used to people saying that they are going to leave Medium or that they will downgrade from Friends of Medium to a regular membership.

It seems that one piece of bad news is followed by another.

I don’t even know if what I see is real. Sometimes I see, read, and comment on 250 comments; the next day it says that no one has commented on this article as of yet.

Until last Friday, I steadily gained followers. On Friday, I suddenly had 200 fewer than the day before. I guess it is possible that 200 people decided on the same day not to follow me anymore, but it does seem strange.

Another email from Substack about a Medium post claims that many honest writers here are labeled “spammers” and are having their accounts suspended. Is there really so much spam here?

It does seem that there is more AI content here on Medium even though it is not allowed to use AI.
