Medium Boycott?
Would it help?
Dr. Mehmet Yildiz and others have vowed to pause writing for Medium until the payment issues are resolved. They urge others to do the same. I am conflicted.
Yes, I get dozens of views, reads, and comments on a story yet earn only pennies. Others report the same issues. On the other hand, I enjoy writing, especially during these long, cold winter days and evenings when those long summer walks outside just don’t seem appealing.
Currently we have 11 degrees outside; the “high” for tomorrow is 4 degrees.
I am not sure if a “boycott” would even help. Do those who run Medium, Evan Williams or A Medium Corporation, actually care? Does it matter to them who writes here, how many people write here, and what people think about Medium?
It doesn’t seem that way since many whose voices carry more weight than mine, owners of Medium publications and substacks, report that their efforts to get answers have fallen on deaf ears.
Should we continue to write or not? That is the question. I am not sure yet what my answer will be.
