Followers but not readers

I am a bit puzzled that more followers do not equate more readers. As for me, I would not follow anyone unless I read a few articles first and liked them and the topics presented. What is the point of just following people without reading their articles?

I just added about another 50 followers, but there has been little additional interaction, just a few claps, highlights and a couple of comments. Of course, there were a couple again that said something like, “Great article. Please read one of mine.”

I usually do read an article by a new follower, but I am less inclined to do so if I am prompted.

I still love writing but am rethinking my membership. Everyone is touting the substacks as more engaging. Since I work part time and also work on online projects that pay quite well, I am not sure if I want to spend time on another platform.

I have time to decide before my membership renews.
