Some feedback and suggestions
I have been busy lately, reading and responding to comments on my stories. If I missed any, I will try to find them.
Responding to my articles on Medium, quite a few people asked questions on how to get more views/reads, and I tried my best to give some advice. I also have some feedback on the following.
Standards on Medium
Submit to a publication or self publish?
For new writers on Medium, it’s best to apply to a publication first before self publishing. The editors know the publication standards here. I know how to write and taught Advanced Senior Composition, a college level writing course, for years, but I ran into trouble right away when I submitted my very first article here.
Why?
I didn’t label the images correctly. Medium makes images available from Unsplash. Those are images without copyright that we can all use here. They have hundreds of images for almost every topic.
If you use images from other sources, you need to make sure they are not copyrighted and indicate that. Medium takes copyright very seriously.
You can also use your own images and photographs. Then you would use the caption Photograph by Author or something similar.
