It is almost time for a new year, 2025. There is chaos in the world. Political upheaval in the U. S. and France. Brexit dividing England and Neo-Nazi groups in Germany. War in Europe, and daily murder world wide. Nuclear weapons in the hands of unpredictable autocrats and dictators.

In 1969, Zager and Evans wrote their haunting song.

In the year 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find

That is still 500 years in the future. Yes, we are still alive and eight billion of us are choking this planet.

But when they sing,

In the year 6565
You won’t need no husband, won’t need no wife
You’ll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube

Well, we are pretty much already there.

And in terms of ecological devastation, we have already reached this point now in many places:

In the year 9595
I’m kinda wonderin’ if man is gonna be alive
He’s taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain’t put back nothing

And eventually we will face a reckoning.

In the year 7510
If God’s a coming, He oughta make it by then
Maybe He’ll look around Himself and say
Guess it’s time for the judgment day

Are we going to survive until 7510, 9595 or even 2525?

A sobering thought indeed. Perhaps our judgment day will come much sooner.
