I never understood antisemitism or the idea that any group of people could be considered "less." The image of the little Jewish boy in the Warsaw Ghetto holding up his hands really touched me, even though I only saw that in a history book. That image prompted me to volunteer in a kibbutz during my Gap year. They never treated me more than kind even though I was a German teenager. I am very dismayed that antisemitism and German nationalism is rearing its ugly head there again and that people like Elon Musk encourage the AFD. Even here in the U. S., once seen as the bulwark of peace, democracy, and righteousness, those nationalist, anti immigrant, anti tolerant voices are trying to drown out anyone else. We can only hope that those people will come to their senses.
