I like classical music, Vivaldi and Mozart above all. I like the folk songs of the sixties. I like some soft rock and country songs.

I never liked loud music. I strongly dislike rap. Melody and a good voice make music, and rap has neither.

I only ever liked one heavy metal song, “Nothing Else Matters,” by Metallica, hardly their typical heavy metal vibe.

Then a song emerged from the YouTube algorithm, one I loved, “The Sound of Silence.” The name of the channel was “Disturbed.” At first I thought the owner of this channel was collecting songs they found disturbing.

But it was not Simon and Garfunkel I heard when I clicked on the song. It was David Braiman, the lead singer of the band DISTURBED, ha.

I thought that a heavy metal band couldn’t possibly capture the haunting magic of the original with Garfunkel’s angelic voice.

As I listened, a shiver went down my spine. What a voice! That face that seemed to feel every emotion. Now, I don’t know whose version I like better.

Alas, I am still not a heavy metal fan. I listened to some of their other songs, and my ears began to hurt.

I will stick to classical, folk, and country — with perhaps the occasional foray into heavy metal.
